Crazy
by Jeff Siamon
It’s the early 1970s. Eddie Baxter is the front man for the Hound Dog Men. They play early rock covers and a few of Eddie’s songs. But now people want to hear songs by the Beatles and other current groups. His brother, Phil plays bass. His father, Del, is on the drums. The problem is, the group is going nowhere. They all need day jobs. Lorne, the bands manager, has a solution: get a girl singer and go back to doing country songs like the band use to do. But Eddie wants nothing to do with “girl singers.” The last girl in the band was his fiancée, Tracy. She turned out to be the fiancée to most of the band members. And when Eddie hears that Lorne’s choice for a singer, Jolene, cleans his apartment, he’s even more against including her in the band. But Jolene has a great voice. Because of her, Lorne gets them a tour. Maybe now they can all quite their day jobs. But then Tracy turns up and things get complicated. Tracy is Del’s choice for the “girl singer.” And Eddie is Tracy’s choice for her lost love. But like so many groups, it’s the girl singers who break up the band. Along with multiple broken hearts.
